Aftercare

FACT:

Aftercare can be effective in sustaining the positive effects of the initial course of care.

Cope Recovery is a community that extends beyond your treatment stay.

We are honored to be part of your residential treatment and recovery. Whether it is your first experience with residential treatment or you are seeking support and care for a relapse, we are committed to forging authentic relationships with each client. After providing you with the highest standards of compassionate detox and residential treatment, we will continue our commitment to you by being involved in your extended recovery journey. Because we are invested in your long term success, we will continue to stay in touch with you as you transition back into your community and life dreams.

Sustaining long term recovery can be an on-going challenge which is why Cope Recovery prioritizes maintaining supportive connection with its clients. As with any health condition, recovery from substance use and mental health issues is a process, one in which multiple factors can coalesce to cause relapse or recurrence.

After your residential treatment program, you may still experience challenges such as cravings and urges to use drugs or alcohol long after you have left treatment. Additionally, when you return to your life outside of treatment, you may experience stressful situations and personal interactions which can challenge your ability to maintain your mental wellness and sobriety. In order to meet these challenges, you may need, and most definitely deserve, the on-going support of the Cope Recovery team with whom you worked. With Aftercare services, you can lean into the supportive relationships that you formed during your treatment to help you recognize, manage and minimize those factors that could trigger relapse.

It is important to know that relapse is most likely to happen within the first few weeks after completing a course of treatment. This time period, when clients are making their transition from a full time focus on recovery to handling the demands of daily life, can be an especially stressful and challenging segment in the recovery journey. During your residential treatment stay, you will have worked hard to make significant changes. You will have learned new ways of healing and new ways of “being” and your Cope Recovery team will have collaborated with you to create a strategic discharge plan for your return to daily life and for your next steps in recovery care. However, you may be returning to surroundings that have not changed or evolved with your recovery progress. Cope Recovery acknowledges how hard it is to sustain new behaviors in old circumstances. For many people, continued mental wellness and recovery depends upon creating and maintaining healing connections - ones that sustain and support them without judgement - the types of connections we strive to foster at Cope Recovery. After you or your loved one completes their stay at Cope Recovery, we follow-up with you within a week following discharge to check in and set up a follow-up schedule that best meets your needs.

Please know that we are always happy to hear from you and to speak with you when you need support. We are deeply invested in your long term recovery and wellness. Through Aftercare, we hope to be a resource and a part of your healing community as you re-engage your life and pursue your dreams.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship." - Brené Brown
